Best costume I have ever seen: my neighbours, twin girls would go out in the clothes they wore that day. When they were asked they would say they are dressed as each other. Cost saving with maximum candy return on investment.

I think this was a case of avant-garde ideas trickling down to the mass public. This boxy kind of robot visual was all around in the 1920s.

Either that's a spot on the film where the emulsion was missing, or he's been outside and someone took the first shot at him.
