The girl doesn't look too happy.
With all that rotary motion at hand, the mother is still having to use the treadle.

I'd think both father and son are peddling to move the bike and mom is sewing with the foot pedal. The whole thing had to be too heavy for one person to move, especially with 4 people riding on it.
