"New," that is, for 1957.

Dr. Crane was apparently suffering from talking-out-his-ass-itis.

Of course it is a veiled advertisement. Pop Psychology is alive and well. One can still find these in mass publications.

Oh, why are you so weird, boy?
Johny are you queer boy?
When you asked for a date,
I thought that you were straight.
But Johny are you queer?

(With apologies to anyone out there who may actually be named Johnny.)

I did get a good laugh over it being Doctor Crane. I can just hear Frasier reading this on air.

So, 10 to 15 percent of the population is homosexual? And since I went to an all boys school, it would seem I escaped being gay by the skin of my teeth.

I just knew it could be cured!

@Scottie: A buddy of mine, Pete, went to an all boys school too. Do you know him?

Another case of someone presenting himself as an *expert* with his own personal agenda. This one looks like a baited hook; anybody with an interest in the topic and two bits to throw can send in his contact information (on the SASE) and join the sucker list.
The truth is homosexuality is not known to be caused by anything in particular, and after-the-fact judgements of it (positive OR negative) are totally dependent on the presumptions of the person doing the judging.
Add it to the list of things (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, allergies, stupidity) for which NOBODY really knows the cause, but EVERYBODY thinks they understand.

Ironically enough, if you open the newspaper view through the link and scroll to the right, there's a short response to a question "Is it possible to understand alien viewpoints?" which is pro-understanding rather than about "fixing" others.

I would think that for a heterosexual, homosexuality would qualify as an alien viewpoint.

1957 was an odd time, apparently.

Its not that people lapped up the bs above like a puppy eats kennel ration, rather, its that people still believe it today.
