I spent two winters working in Minnesota (aka: Great White North, Southern Division) and I can appreciate anything knitted that will keep you warm in those conditions.

There is a clear precedent for this idea in an episode of the BBC Radio comedy series "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" first broadcast in May 1966. It is currently available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00scw5v and will be through most of January 2015.
