Being a sheep

Artist Miranda Whall spent much of last summer crawling around on her hands and knees through the Cambrian Mountains in Wales, while dressed as a sheep, with 14 cameras strapped to her body.

She did this in order to immerse herself in the mountains and be able to better tell their story for the documentary she was creating. She said, "I wanted to challenge the assumptions and misconceptions about sheep and the Welsh uplands, both of which are central to Wales' heritage and identity."

For her next project, she's thinking of crawling through Scotland as a deer, and then it's off to the Pyrenees to crawl around as a boar or bear.

Why did I suddenly hear "Well, SOMEONE has to do it!" in Richard Harris' voice?

I'm wondering if there still are poachers in Scotland. I am not a fan of Star Wars so i don't know which episode was partially filmed in the forest of Oregon? When the actor dressed as the Wookie was off set and not in the scene, he was accompanied by two guards in bright orange safety vests. This was to prevent him from being shot.

In the CSI tv show set in Las Vegas a"furrie" dressed as a wolf was shot by a rancher who thought it was a coyote.

Why not just strap the cameras to actual sheep?

Given that she is already a mammal, you'd think she'd be adventurous enough to want to try something less mammalian. Like immersing herself in the middle of the Atlantic ocean to get a better feel of what it's like to be a fluke. Or better yet, a sea cucumber.

So, What do you do for work?

-I dress up like sheep and walk around the hills of Wales.

Oh, erm... that's nice... and that, uh, pays the bills does it?

-You have something against someone who dresses like sheep?

No no, it's just that, sheep are herd animals so there should really be a bunch of humans frollocking on the hills acting like sheep. You should really start a retreat for those who want to get into mind of the sheep. Strike out on their own to follow the crowd, say.

-Right, that's it, I'm gonna go off to be a Scottish Deer for a summer to be away from you, you nutter!
