Well, he was originally "Captain Zero" but he found out there was another time traveler by that name so he changed. He later toured as "The Original Captain Z-Ro" and "The Legendary Captain Z-Ro featuring Jet" before the interstate transportation of a minor for immoral purposes charges were filed.

The Wiki entry reminded me of a few concepts creators have used over the years - Isaac Asimov's time traveling society, H. Beam Piper's cross dimensional "police force" and Irwin Allen's "Time Tunnel". Obviously some treatments of the concept have been better handled than others.
