Dakota Joe

Have a gander at Dakota Joe. He and his dog Digger are the mascots for a national Vacation Bible School Camp program. Because, you see, ultra-rationalist archaeology professors who believe fervently in the scientific method, despite having encountered various paranormal phenomena which themselves contradict Gospel, are the perfect spokepeople for Biblical inerrancy.

Seriously, though, shouldn't Spielberg & Lucas be suing the pants off these guys?

Bill--I thought Spielberg and Lucas were God's annointed prophets, given exclusive licensing rights!

Rain--it is, it is Scrappy Do! Mark Evanier, who had a hand in creating Scrappy Do, has been occasionally blogging in humorous fashion about the genesis of that cartoon mutt.

Dale--I take your point, that these are non-overlapping franchises. But generally speaking, I believe, copyright holders go after all violations. For instance, if I had a business named Kentucky Fried Chicken Car Wash, I'd still get sued by KFC.

Rational1--being a spiritual, albeit not religious person (if that distinction is clear), I appreciate your point about the separate and not always incompatible realms of science and faith. "Non-overlapping magisteriums," as the saying goes. Nonetheless, an Indiana Jones ripoff character advocating Bible studies still seems to me to be a deliberately misleading attempt to enlist science and academia on the side of religious indoctrination.
