Duck and cover was just the first step of sicking your head between your legs and kissing your ass goodbye!

Yeah, because we all know that hiding under a desk will save us from an atomic bomb! And who knew that covering yourself with a NEWSPAPER would save you from burns!?!?!?!

When I was in school we didn't do a duck and cover. My elementary was on the top of a hill and the high school was was at the bottom of the hill. There was an underground tunnel that ran between the two and during the drills, be they tornado or bomb drills, all of the kids from both schools would go into the tunnel. Each end had vault doors so we were sealed in. I HATED that tunnel! This was in the early 70's so we didn't have many bomb drills, but being in Indiana we had LOTS of tornado drills.

Thank God a two-foot high retaining wall in the middle of a park will save you from an atomic blast! They just don't make things like they used to-- not nearly as atom bomb-proof.

I like the intro to the video, with a rare sighting of the North American Dynamite monkey (cebus capucinus trinitrotoluenus)
