The Encyclopedia of Ethical Failure

This curious book, compiled and published by the U.S. Government, is a catalog of examples of ethical failure among federal employees. As explained in the intro:

The Standards of Conduct Office of the Department of Defense General Counsel’s Office has assembled the following selection of cases of ethical failure for use as a training tool. Our goal is to provide DoD personnel with real examples of Federal employees who have intentionally or unwittingly violated the standards of conduct. Some cases are humorous, some sad, and all are real. Some will anger you as a Federal employee and some will anger you as an American taxpayer.

Some of the categories of ethical failure include Abuse of Position, Bribery, Conflicts of Interest, Credit-Card Abuse, Financial Disclosure Violations, Fraud, Gift Violations, Travel Violations, Misuse of Government Resources and Personnel, and Time and Attendance Violations.

You can download a word document of the entire book for free from the DoD. Or, you can buy a hard copy from Amazon.

It was last updated in 2015. Can't wait for the post-Trump era edition!

It will need a fresh updating for sure. Just the partial list of categories will keep the government printing office busy for a decade or so.

I'd rather see the post-Obama edition first.

The Obama-era edition is several volumes of material, and is growing by the day as more material is being uncovered and added. Why wait for the "post-Trump era edition", Alex? Your left-wing bias isn't funny, isn't necessary, is trite and hackneyed. Leave boring, repetitive insults masquerading as "humor" (it ain't, hint hint) to the echo-chamber hacks of late night TV and stick to "Weird" stuff, how about it? Why alienate the large percentage of your audience who supports our great president and finds this kind of sophomoric stuff insulting? And to ignore the legions of Obama ethical "lapses" - otherwise known as felonies - is extremely disingenuous and intellectually dishonest, and reveals who you really are.
I now remember why, so long ago, I removed myself from your mailing list.

Scott -- I gotta admit I agree with you. In hindsight, I shouldn't have made the remark. It kinda slipped out and my self-censor didn't catch it. One of the things I like about WU is keeping it free of partisan politics. Well, the posts are politics free. People can say whatever they want in the comments.

One of the reasons I hate Facebook is that I can't stand being constantly bombarded by everyone's stupid political opinions. Even the ones I agree with. I don't want WU to become like that. Therefore, I should spare everyone my own stupid political opinions, which I'll endeavor to do in the future.

Then again, from a non-USAlien POV, the difference between Obama, Hillary and Trump is that between Meh, Good grief no, and Oh my god no get it off me no help me oh please god no aaaaaarrggghhhh.

Seriously. You in the good ol' US of A don't, you just do not realise just how badly idiotic your insistence that Trump is even remotely comparable to normal politicians looks.

What is normal? Europe has given us some wild characters too. Hitler and Mussolini spring to mind.
