It's so easy to forget the amount of testing which has to be done on all types of things. Better to find out everything you can, any way you can, before people start finding out in the real world, and the lawsuits start coming in.

One thing that blindsided me was learning that when eye drops, laser eye surgery, etc. are being developed, and it's time to move from animal testing to trying it out on humans, they enlist blind people for the studies. It only makes sense, considering the liability concerns of something unforeseen permanently damaging the eyeball, but I'd never thought about it before seeing an ad calling for 'compensated volunteers' who were completely blind.

Sadly, it was accidental. I was halfway through the paragraph before I realized the 'appropriateness' of the word. Decided to just leave it, partly because it's kind of cute, mostly because I'm lazy.
