There's a humorous recorded interaction between an operator and a person who never experienced an
answering machine before. I don't think the operator did either but it makes for a humorous recording that the Asylum Choir put on their record:

Late 60s, which I thought was pretty early for an answer machine recording to appear on an album. I think the Mothers Of Invention also have one too
