Wooden Bathing Suits

I guess the "Wear Wood" campaign never caught on. From Popular Science, May 1930:

Wooden Bathing Suits. These two girls are wearing bathing suits of wood. They are the latest novelty for use on the bathing beaches. Fashioned of thin spruce, they are said to be practical as costumes and also are sufficiently buoyant to encourage a timid swimmer to take a plunge. So far, none of them has warped or cracked.

eFootage.com has video footage from 1932 of "lovely ladies" modeling and swimming in the wooden suits.

Why is this not safe for work?
They have on more clothes than I just wore to the grocery store.

That being said, Don't they get heavy when they get wet?

I think they never caught on because people got board with 'em. Though watching the video, I'm pining for the old days. How fir do you think you could swim in those? I'll stop now; you'd probably get sycamore tree jokes.

Knot really, Kenneth. Yew could go on perennially.

AGFH, would you have watched otherwise?

Those suits are pretty revealing by 1930's standards

Oak-ay, those are pretty weird. Still, yew have to admire the ingenuity the inventors had. I always pity the saps who think this will be the next trend, buying crap like this to spruce up their wardrobe.

kingmonkey - Don't be so rooted in what you think is fashion. Try to leave your first impression behind you and allow yourself to branch out.

Sorry but I can't pass up a good pun and I missed this yesterday.

I just gotta say that I love our pun-rants.

kingmonkey - You don't think the pun-rants are a stain on the soul of WU? Wood it not be best to say goodbye to such silly childplay? I saw an opportunity, but patty dragged me back into it.
