Bump Art

According to the Daily Mail, Bump Art is all the rage. This involves pregnant women painting their baby bumps. The Guardian interviews professional bump artist Julia Francis who says that "around 70% of women choose nature-based ideas such as flowers and leaves, a small percentage go for something 'really bizarre', and she has even done a few planets."

Well, it sure beats placenta art. I guess us men can always join in the fun by painting our food-baby bumps.

The pictures are cute, but I have just never gotten some women's desire to show off their pregnant bellies. I hid that thing myself.

Why and when did people start referring to them as "baby bumps?" In my house when I was little, "bump" meant butt. I also do not get the need to embellish a pregnant belly --- it's there, everyone knows it's there, isn't that enough? It's not as if you did anything particularly unique to get it; it's been done before. Maybe that's why they feel the need to be different.
