Good with first names

This photo was taken by Time-Life photographer David Scherman in 1943. According to the caption, it shows a local businessman in Kerry, Ireland who "claims to know everyone in Ireland by their first name."

If he knew everyone in Ireland by their first name, that means he must have met everyone in the country, which would have been an impressive feat. Or he was lying. Or he called everyone by the same name.

My Dad was from the deep south. He always told me that when you are in the south and forgot a man's name you should just call him Bubba. You will be right about 70% of the time!
So, When in Ireland do you change Bubba to Patty?

FYI -- just about any man will answer to "Hey Handsome!" (or these days "Hey Gorgeous! ")

When I can't remember someone's name, I just use the universal initials, "A. U!"
Works every time. 😊

Yep blarney it is, the gift of gab, just enough exaggeration to make a good story great.

Or Paddy which sound the same and you'd be right 50% or so of the time sweetie!

My grandfather called every Irishman the same name, but my mother told me I should never use that word.

Hmm ... according to Wikipedia, the electoral turnout in the 1943 election was 1,816,142.

That "58r" at the end of my last comment was part of the captcha. If anything odd appears at the end of this comment, you can assume it happened again....

Even in the 1940s the population of Ireland was a couple of million. I too call blarney, but if we're choosing between Irish blarney and New York reporter blarney, my vote is on the latter.
