Norwegian Navy Beard Form

If sailors in the Norwegian Navy want to grow a beard, they must submit a form requesting permission to do so. This form should include a drawing of what their beard will look like. Redditor "aellgutta" recently shared a photo of such a form that he submitted, along with a translation:

On the top it says "BEARD APPLICATION", then it's rank/ military ID-number, full name and platoon/ division. Then it says "Reason:" to which I wrote "I get irritated skin from daily shaving and it's starting to get cold outside." Under the sketch I drew, it says "DRAW HERE!" and at the bottom the Lieutenant has written that he will inspect it after the next excercise (which gave me about 2,5 weeks) followed by a stamp to show my application was accepted.

It was up to The Old Man on my bird farm if we could grow face hair or not. Usually not.

At our command the brass didnĀ“t have a say. Zumwalt said we could have beards, end of story.

So if you are a lousy artist then no beard? Someone should turn in one with a ZZ Top pic.

I just wish I had enough hair to show a beard. Not all of us are hirsute gorillas.

In the Royal Navy, you have to get permission to stop shaving (no picture required, though!) AND to start shaving again. Full beards only, no mustaches or partial beards. My Dad came back off leave one time, clean-shaven. He was required to explain why he had started shaving again without permission. His reply was that Mum hated the beard. One morning, he woke up to find half of it gone - she'd shaved half his face while he was sleeping on his side. She then threatened that, next morning, it would be half his head hair. He was granted retroactive permission to start shaving again.

patty, I still have enough hair on top. Although that's changing as time goes by.

I wonder if they will still allow a full Viking berserker beard. Hey, the berserker was a very valuable crew member when on shore leave!

I did once come in third in a beard contest at a winter "Mad Trapper" festival. If your beard measured at least 8" down from your bottom lip, you got free tickets to the gala dance and 'FREE BEER'. My friend won, but just imagine a cross between a berserker and an orang-outang; so you will see my competition!
