Sodaburst

A solution without a problem. So much easier than scooping a dollop of vanilla ice cream into a glass of root beer. Now with limited flavor choices!

Presumably made with baking soda and some kind of acid (citric, perhaps). I suspect it had an off taste.

Did the narrator mention a "healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream"? Yuk.

I remember a product from that era that was a flavored tablet much like an Alka-Seltzer that was supposed to be an instant soft drink. It was horrible and lasted a few years. It did have entertainment value, though. We gave it to the pets once in a while.

There was a lot of this 'instant' replacement 'foods' out about then: 1959 introduced Tang and it was way, way past bad.

@KDP -- Do you mean Fizzies?

Made by the same company which made Bromo-Seltzer.

I loved them! I think that was only natural since it was later determined they really, really bad for you.

Fizzies were quick, fun to watch and tasted fairly good.
Fizzies were also healthier than most other commercial kid's drinks. The banned, now un-banned, cyclamate sweetner meant you weren't feeding the kid loads of sugar.

I suppose it also un-gassed us kids?

I remember kids putting Fizzies into their mouths on a dare.
You were 'cool' if you could chew it and swallow without spitting the stuff up.

It doesn't look or sound good to me.

Looks a bit like Creamola Foam. Basically fizzy drinks for poor people. As a kid I loved making it, but the taste was somewhat nasty.

My mom wouldn't buy it for us, she would rather make us rootbeer floats. I fondly remember Fizzies. I could easily beat friends at the in your mouth challenge. Must have been defective taste buds.

Just a tad cynical here. I thought it was great at the time.

That's OK, Dale, everyone gets one pass here on WU. 😉

I remember Sodaburst from the 1960s. Tasted dreadful. We bought a four pack once after seeing the ads on television. I can't imagine the thinking that went into this product. I'm also wondering what exactly was in it.
