A great and imaginative filmmaker by the account in the obituary. It may beg the question of what Mikels could have done with a real Hollywood project. But then again there have been some guys handed such projects and turned them into total disasters.

I submit Michael Cimino as an example. Known better as the director of "The Deer Hunter", he fell from grace with "Heaven's Gate" which, although not a bad movie, he allowed the project to spiral out of control, leading to his banishment.

Perhaps it's better to be dirt poor and scramble for every foot of film you can get.

It seems his work was similar to Ed Wood. Too bad none of his movies hit cult status like Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space" (1959) did.
