For those of you who have never seen a redwood tree up close, it is almost overwhelming as to how large they can grow. The age given on the postcard is not an exaggeration. In California we used to use redwood lumber for everything outdoor related, from roofing shingles to furniture to fencing. It is loaded with tannin, which lends to the wood being fire resistant and the bugs won't eat it. Unfortunately there aren't all that many left and they are no longer felled for lumber, which is a good thing.

Also there are the "drive thru" trees located just off of highway 101 in northern ca. http://redwoods.info/showrecord.asp?id=2464 And I remember a photo store that was inside of a single redwood log that had been hollowed out. It was located in Eureka, Ca. As KDP indicated; these trees are overwhelming causing one to just stand there in amazement and awe.

There's also a large Redwood at Big Trees State Park in Ca., that cars use to drive through the cut out, in it's center.
But the heavy rains in 2016 ~ 2017 and cutting out the center of the tree, it was doomed to go over one day, and she did.
