Bandido

Why does no one write folk-rock songs about bandidos these days? "I'll clean my wound with tequila..."

Actually they do. It's called Gangsta Rap. Bandidos have changed since the old days, it seems.

Paul, it seems the long form storytelling song has been lost in the pursuit of chart ratings. As Billy Joel sarcastically put it:

Ah, it took me years to write it
They were the best years of my life
It was a beautiful song
But it ran too long
If you're gonna have a hit
You gotta make it fit
So they cut it down to 3:05

If you like the folk side of folk-rock, you can listen to narcocorridos. They are corridos (Mexican songs in the style that your kitch aunt likes to dance Continental to) which talk about the life and death of drug traffickers. Maybe you can find some with English translation.

When was the last time you heard any new filk? Sure, there's never going to be another "Banned from Argo" or "Do It Yourself" but someone could at least be trying!
