I've always thought of them as torture devices. Sort of like wearing an athletic supporter full time, binding and moisture laden.

Why would anyone bless garbage? There must have been a future use -- perhaps for highway impact barriers.

Those are not garbage. Those are the fallen, the trustworthy supports for cumbersome breasts. Day and night, they stood watch over sore backs, perverted bosses and nipple chafing. They have endured washing machines, pet claws, toddler tugging and harsh soaps without complaints. They may now rest and their watch is over.
