Smile

This film looks almost like a forerunner of famous mockumentaries such as Spinal Tap. It certainly fits into our theme of "odd beauty contests."

I noticed Bruce Dern and Barbara Feldon in there. Any one able to identify one of the contestants who seemed to be Laura Dern also? I'm surprised that this didn't play at the local drive-in.

I did not notice Laura Dern in the clip. The Wikipedia page has a list of some of the actors. So I checked out the film on IMDB.com. Reviewers have given the film a 7 of 10 rating. The full list of cast members does not show Laura Dern. The trivia comments are good reading.

First try at linking the URL failed. Maybe this will work... http://www.imdb.com

Laura Dern would only have been 9 years old in 1975; I saw no sign of her in the trailer.

I did see Annette O'Toole, though. Went back and looked for Melanie Griffith after seeing her on a cast list, but she must be waaay in the background.

That was Annette O'Toole. They were so young and she has that type of face that makes you say, "I've seen her before, but I can't put a name to her." Thanks, FRANK.

I saw this movie back in the day. I remember it as being quite good. Bruce Dern was appropriately unctuous and creepy.

It appears that the highlight of the film appears in this trailer at the 2:14 markā€¦
