The Cardrona Bra Fence

The Wikipedia page.

The Cardrona Bra Fence is a controversial tourist attraction in Central Otago, in New Zealand.[1] At some point between 1998 and 1999, passers-by began to attach bras to a rural fence. The fence gradually became a well known site as the number of bras grew to hundreds. The fence is located on a public road reserve, adjacent to farm property in the Cardrona Valley area southwest of Wanaka, near to Cardrona. Despite its popularity, there has been disagreement over the value of the attraction. The bra fence stands next to the Cardrona Distillery.

You can see the entire fence with Google maps street view. I was hoping to see a sign for the distillery inviting tourists to "Have a cup...of whiskey". They could also offer different sized whiskey samples, calling them AA, A, B, C, D, etc. Or have a Bosom Buddies Fan Club. Lots of marketing possibilities.

That reminds me of the Pont des Arts bridge over the Seine River in Paris where locks are/were affixed to the fence by lovers as a pledge. I don't think it's done anymore, which is too bad.

You could save the whole attraction by affixing a sign stating this is a tribute and a memento to all rape victims, and have a sister Tijuana Bra Fence.

...why!?

(Also, the Daily Heil is not a reputable source of information. Or of anything.)

@KDP: that's not too bad, that's for the better. That fashion is a genuine danger to the safety of the bridge. You don't want to be walking over there when a stay snaps because it's been corroded by the presence of all those metal hangers-on. No sappy lovers' "pledge" (and I'd bet good money 90% of them broke up within a month) is worth a single drowning.
