Check the Neck!

Beware of the "neck-breathers" among us!

That was instructive. When they put the guy's face in his shoe, I immediately thought of how bad it would smell if it were my shoes, but then I realized that, since he doesn't breathe through his nose, he wouldn't smell it.

Major law suit coming soon to a neighborhood near you!

Honestly now, how long has it been since you've seen one of these? About 5 years for me.

Check the neck! Always good advice, as in step 1 make sure airway is open. Then check the chest is rising.
It was a couple of nights ago for me expat, stomas are more common than you'd think. Most people are pretty self-conscious about them and so conceal them.

It has been a long time since I went through a general first aid course. To tell the truth I don't remember being told to check for a stoma when attempting artificial respiration.

Paul, you have your good deed for the day.

I would think that anybody with a stoma would dread wearing a necktie.

Like Ty said, if you prepare to do CPR correctly then you would find this if the person had one. I've seen a few of those and I'd never put my mouth directly on it. Suffice it to say they are not dry and mucus free like that.
