Barring pinball and skeeball, how did primitive youngsters amuse themselves in arcades before computer-chip video games?

With electromechanical games.

I've seen the F1 Racing game before. And it's not hard to see the ancestor of "Missile Command" in the first Sega game. I could usually kill any previous high score on "Missile Command."
