It's also considered endearing in Italian & Jewish Grandmothers. My Nonna would grab my cheeks like that and say "Come sei bella! But you're so skinny, who'll ever Marry you? Sit, sit! I'll cook you a chicken!" And then she'd roast a Chicken, make a pan of Stuffed Artichokes, some Red Peppers stuffed with Bread, Herbs & Pine Nuts or some Hot Sausages fried with Red Peppers, and the Pasta with Meat Gravy.
