Happy To See Food

These people sure are happy at the sight of food. Or are they happy because of the amazingly low prices? 49 cents for a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper! That's less than a nickel per can. (These are 1950's prices.)

Impressive till you ask what wages were then. It evens out for the most part.

If what I heard was correct, the average income today is aprox. $47KpA which has about the same buying power (or just a tad more) than it always had. A new car has always cost about a year's worth of work.

I looked at an USA census site. The average wage in 1950 was $2,992.

I checked another site. $100.00 in 1950 bought the same as $904.56 in 2010.

It is raining so I am stuck indoors. A 1950 Ford Crestliner car with a flat head V-8 cost $1,624.00.
