Cool Post Paul, The EZCC was an interesting group, to say the least!
I started hearing about them in '77-'78 and wanted to learn more.
When I did I was quickly turned off by the overall conservative vibe of the place and the people. The ONLY THING they were liberal about was the use of pot. Those hyper conservative/regressive/fundamentalist views mostly drove away the people they were trying to recruit.
The hippies that I knew who had met him said that Bro. Love and the other leadership, "Rang the bell on the bulls%*t meter". Driving brand new cars while preaching the simple life. 😝

Wow, Tyrusguy, pretty cool you actually had a brush with them back in the day!

You must admit that they were consistent about smoking ganja as a part of the religious observance. Obviously, most of the kids attracted to the religion were thinking, "WOW! They always have something to smoke." When they found out that they would have to actually "work" (can't think of a better word) for their weed, they rapidly abandoned the group.

As for the hypocritical practice of preaching about living simply and driving new cars, those types are a dime a dozen. Remember Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, the guru whose cult owned an entire town in Oregon and had a lot of Rolls Royce cars while the commune lived in what anyone would call poverty.

It was VERY brief Paul. A good friend of mine had been to Jamaica on vacation and befriended some EZCC members, then met them again in Fla.
I went to Fla. to work and was invited to star island for a visit.
I spent an afternoon there, Stoned nearly out of my mind! Those people smoked weed ALL THE TIME! But, Stoned as I was I just could not get past the way they treated their Women members,Their children,Anyone they thought might be gay or disagree with them in any way.
For context, I was just a kid myself (14) but it made me very uncomfortable to see kids much younger(looked about 4,5,6) smoking weed.

They almost had me until he got to the point where I had to stop 'hand sex'. That just went too far!

Almost all scocial institutions are pyramid scemes. Some are more corrupt than others.

It is up to you to be the BULL, not the gulli-BULL! 😉
