Phideaux -- we got one of those for my cat. He refused to acknowledge its existence.

Alex -- I'm far from an expert, but I did have one cat who'd ignore any toy she didn't discover on her own. Put it in the middle of the living room floor and it didn't exist. But put it in a paper bag on top of the fridge (where she wasn't allowed), and the next thing you know, it'd be on the floor, and she'd fight you if you tried to take it from her.
