The Elvis Diet

Everyone knows about Elvis's penchant for fried banana and peanut butter sandwiches. But some of these other items, as instanced in the book below, have faded from popular memory.

I had read some time ago that Elvis' doctor is now saying that his severe constipation was the actual cause of his death.

@Patty: Elvis is alive and well living in luxury apartments under Graceland.

I don't know how much credence I'd give that doctor. The "dieting" mentioned in the earlier article was called "the Sleeping Beauty Diet." Two weeks before a concert tour, he'd give Elvis a bunch of barbiturates and basically put him into a 2 week coma. That was the only way to get him to stop eating. I assume that if I grew up dirt-poor in Appalachia during the Depression, I'd have food insecurity issues myself.

Physicians with a single patient who's a famous and too-rich rock star is never a good mix (cf. Elvis' son-in-law, Michael Jackson).

Great to see someone who makes me look like a health food nut.

If even half of that is true, it is amazing that he lasted as long as he did. That's a lot of heart-stopping silage.

OTOH, as soon as I'd heard of "Fool's Gold Loaf" 25 years ago, I've always wanted to try a slice of it!
