The Wellingborough Carnival

The town of Wellingborough, UK, has been holding a carnival for over 100 years. The old affairs certainly featured things that look weird to us today. Here's a photo album to peruse.

And the Wellingborough Carnival home page reveals this year's affair is on July 7th! Plenty of time to make your plans to attend!

 Too bad. I can't make it. I have to be in a hotel on the beach in Crete putting up with all that sun, water, and (hopefully) a few free-range hooters. :cheese:

Looks a lot like my hometown gala, the Lodi Grape Festival. It takes place over three days and was quite an event when I was much younger with a parade through downtown and a very small county fair atmosphere. I have heard that the parade no longer takes place and it has become too commercialized. The picture albums of the Wellingborough fair looks like what I remember from home.

Seems the town has had 100 years of fun! Too late this year, however I will be looking at next year. Plenty of time to buy a pointy hat and a fake beard. I am not allowed to grow a beard. My lovely wife said it makes me look like someone who had done something wrong trying to hide from the authorities. Such is life. My wife prefers me beardless. I love my wife. No natural beard. The fake beard industry will make a few pennies from my purchase.

It's nice to see that they gave up the black face for real black people.
