Khrushchev vs. Lachaise

Original article here (page 4).

Upon reading this article, I immediately wondered what statue was at the center of the controversy. Finding out took a little google-fu. Eventually, I hit upon the complete catalogue of works shown, in PDF form. Below is the relevant section.

I did not even bother to google any of the other statues after seeing Gaston Lachaise's "Standing Woman."

Wow, a sports girdle for fat boys! And in the last panel, it seems to have had the power to change Fatty's hair color as well!

The Big Ballet

One only hopes that the current ill will towards Russia does not prevent the 2014 tour of The Big Ballet.

Perfection Is Not Timeless

Miss Elsie Scheel was proclaimed the perfect female specimen in a 1912 New York Times piece. At 5'7" and 171 pounds, how far from ideal would she be proclaimed to be today? Perhaps some of the hysterics over the 'obesity epidemic' are a matter of perspective and cultural norms. On the other hand, she was a blue eyed blonde, so that preference holds.

Love Is Blind Department

image
I had to snap this picture covertly, on the streets of Providence, with my camera held at waistlevel and viewfinder image unseen, so I'm surprised it came out as good as it did. Circumstances prevented me from gaping at whatever was on the front of the shirt.

The legend on the back says:

I'M PROUD I MARRIED SUCH A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AS YOURSELF
I LOVE YOUR QUALITIES
LOVE PS

A whole lotta lovin' for a whole lot of woman!
